He completed his undergraduate and dental education at the University of Michigan and earned a Master of Science in Oral Biology along with a specialty certificate in Periodontology from the University of Louisville. A recognized leader in his field, he is a Fellow of the American and International College of Dentists, the Academy of Osseointegration, and the Pierre Fauchard Academy.
