Gregg Johnson, PT, FFMT, FAAOMPT is a 1971 graduate from the University of Southern California School of Physical Therapy. Following PT school, he was accepted into a one-year Proprioceptive Neuromuscular Facilitation (PNF) residency with the systems developer Maggie Knott at Kaiser Vallejo Rehabilitation Center. He remained at Kaiser as a senior PNF faculty for six years. During his time at Kaiser Vallejo, he began his extensive study of Manual Therapy approaches, including Maitland, Norwegon, Cyriax, and alternative approaches such as Rolfing, Feldenkrais, Tragger Work, Alexandar Technique, Aston Patterning, and Hellerwork. Mr. Johnson is best known for his identification of the need for Physical Therapists to integrate treatment of the facial system into manual therapy and the development of the first Soft Tissue Mobilization course (Functional Orthopedics) in 1980. In addition, He utilized his extensive background in PNF to adapt standard manual therapy techniques of Joint Mobilization and develop the dynamic techniques of Functional Mobilization™ and Resistance Enhanced Manipulation™ (REM) techniques for joints, soft tissues, and neurovascular restrictions. Mr. Johnson has trained or directed the training of over 60,000 therapists in the USA and internationally. Gregory Johnson is the co-founder with Vicky Saliba Johnson of the Institute of Physical Art and co-developer of the Functional Manual Therapy™ approach. He is the Director of a credentialed AAOMPT/ACOMPTE Fellowship program and has published multiple chapters and articles on STM, PNF, and Functional Manual Therapy™. Dr. Michael K. DeLuke obtained his DDS from SUNY Stony Brook, where he graduated as class valedictorian. He obtained his Certificate of Proficiency in Orthodontics and Master of Dental Science (MDS) degree from the University of Connecticut, serving as Chief Resident in his final year. Dr. DeLuke is a Diplomate of the American Board of Orthodontics, served as the orthodontist on the prestigious Cleft Craniofacial Team at Albany Medical Center, served as a clinical professor at both Ellis Hospital and the University of Connecticut Health Center Department of Orthodontics, and is currently an adjunct professor at the NSU College of Dental Medicine in the Department of Orthodontics. Dr. DeLuke owned and operated DeLuke Orthodontics in Upstate New York from 2005 – 2023, and launched DeLuke Orthodontic Coaching in 2022 with the mission of helping his colleagues succeed both personally and professionally. Dr. DeLuke has lectured at numerous regional and national meetings over the past 20 years, has published articles in multiple orthodontic journals, and sits on the editorial board of OrthoTown Magazine. ABOUT THE GUESTS
Dr. Richard P. Ting earned his Doctorate of Dental Surgery from the University of Southern California in 1991 and practiced general dentistry for 8 years. Driven by his passion for advancing the field, he pursued post-graduate education in orthodontics at NYU earning his specialization in 2001. Dr. Ting now practices in Rancho Santa Margarita, in Southern California. Coming from a family of distinguished orthodontists, Dr. Ting's younger brother, a Harvard graduate, served as the former chairman of UCLA’s Orthodontic Department. His brother-in-law, also a former UCLA Orthodontics instructor, is a successful orthodontist in Manhattan Beach, California. Dr. Ting is among a select group of elite orthodontists in the nation skilled in the use of MARPE (Miniscrew-assisted Rapid Palatal Expansion), and he is considered one of the most experienced in the world. He is passionate about sharing his knowledge with fellow orthodontists and regularly conducts seminars and produces instructional videos on the benefits and techniques of MARPE. As a specialist in structural, functional, and airway orthodontics, Dr. Ting focuses on improving jaw structure and function, while also addressing airway issues in children, teens, and adults. His state-of-the-art methods aim to prevent long-term dependence on appliances and avoid the onset of an altered bite, moving beyond traditional orthodontic treatment that focuses on teeth alone. Dr. David Evans is a Doctor of Physical Therapy who has a strong background in orthopedic and manual physical therapy. He has taken multiple advanced classes in the evaluation and treatment of the cervical, thoracic, and lumbar spines, as well the lumbar/pelvic complex and extremity integration. Dr. Evans has taken many continuing education courses from Titleist Performance Institute, Postural Restoration Institute, Selective Functional Movement Assessment, and Dynamic Neuromuscular Stabilization. Dr. Evans has become a certified Medical and Fitness Professional from Titleist Performance Institute. 

Dr. Evans has also received advanced training in evaluating and treating the temporomandibular joint in conjunction with the mechanics of the cervical spine.

Dr. Evans developed a particular interest in orofacial myofunctional disorders (OMDs) as related to oral rest posture issues, mouth breathing, malocclusion and deficient orofacial growth, airway dysfunction, sleep-disordered breathing, and the relationship of OMDs to the cervical spine, posture, body pain, fibromyalgia, migraines, tinnitus, TMJ issues, and overall health in both children and adults. When treating many physical therapy patients, Dr. Evans noticed a component of their treatment may be missing if there is an OMD that is not identified and addressed. Dr. Evans truly understands the interrelationship of form and function of the orofacial system and the entire musculoskeletal system. He embraces the idea that addressing the orofacial system and treating orofacial myofunctional disorders is an important component to the overall well-being of the entire body.  

Dr. Evans has taken advanced TMD coursework, and the population of patients with TMJ disorders has become one of his favorite patient population to treat.

Walt Fritz is a physical therapist who teaches a unique interpretation of manual therapy to speech-language pathologists, voice professionals, and other related communities. His gentle, non-manipulative, and interactive touch-based approach advances views of causation and impact from historical tissue-specific models into a multifactorial narrative, leaning heavily on biopsychosocial influences.

His principles apply to a broad spectrum of intervention models using a model of evaluation and intervention that encourages equality between patient and clinician, utilizing shared decision-making rather than the biomedical clinician-as-expert approach. Unlike traditional laryngeal and soft tissue manipulation, Walt offers the clinician and patient a more subtle approach that gives the receiver more time to assess its influence and relevance. This approach is often better tolerated than aggressive forms of treatment and aligns well with newer research findings, allowing the patient to frame the intervention from their preferences and values. ABOUT THE GUEST:
Dr. Dave McCarty is a board-certified specialist in Sleep Medicine, an award-winning educator, and a pioneer in the practice of patient-centered care for those who suffer from sleep disorders. A graduate of Duke Medical School and Massachusetts General Hospital residency in Internal Medicine, Dr. McCarty found his calling in Sleep Medicine after establishing a successful community primary care practice. He was the second Program Director for the Sleep Medicine Fellowship at LSU. In 2015, Dr. McCarty left academics to join the newly founded Colorado Sleep Institute, a collaborative Sleep Medicine practice which incorporated clinical management, diagnostic services (sleep studies), medical equipment (PAP therapy) and dental treatment (oral appliance therapy) under one roof. At CSI, he served as medical director, while also maintaining a full-time patient-centered clinic. In 2021, Dr. McCarty left clinical practice to begin a new journey of public education. In September 2022, the Empowered Sleep Apnea project was launched, an innovative cross-platform educational project combining storytelling, cartooning, scientific rigor, and quite a bit of fun, all in the name of helping individuals (and their providers) navigate the fascinating but complex disorder known as “Sleep Apnea.” A foundational goal of the project is to empower individuals with knowledge that restores confidence and personal agency within the journey of “Sleep Apnea”, helping each patient-provider team navigate the landscape of sleep-related disease and wellness, within an increasingly fragmented healthcare system. She is employed full time by the Ridgefield Board of Education and runs a private practice in Ridgefield, NJ. She is a lecturer and author for TalkTools®. She has been elected NJ Kids Top Doctors in 2012, 2013, 2014 ,2018 and 2023. Robyn received both her undergraduate and graduate degrees from Montclair State University, where she was later invited to be an adjunct/clinical supervisor. She also taught classes at Bergen Community College and Brescia University and was a former clinical site coordinator for Seton Hall University. She is the Board Chair of the Oral Motor Institute. She is the proud recipient of four ASHA ACE Award and the Ridgefield Woman of the Year 2019 in Business. Robyn is currently pursuing a certification in vocology at Lamar University. Robyn specializes in oral placement, feeding and orofacial myofunctional disorders across the lifespan. She is Beckman and PROMPT trained. Her private practice focuses on Oral-Placement (OPT), oral motor, orofacial myofunctional (OMT), muscle and motor-based speech sound disorders. Joy Moeller, BS, RDH is a dental hygienist, author and formally an associate professor at Indiana University, who has worked as a myofunctional therapist for many years and currently has a private practice in Pacific Palisades, California.

Joy is founding lecturer with the Academy of Orofacial Myofunctional Therapy (AOMT) and a founding board member with the AAMS. She has taught post-graduate courses in Myofunctional Therapy at universities and hospitals world- wide. Joy wrote a chapter in Sleep Medicine Clinics, a chapter in Sleep-Disorders in Pediatric Dentistry, a chapter in Management of Obstructive Sleep Apnea, a textbook for Oral Surgeons in 2021 and a children’s book on tongue position as well as many published studies and other chapters in textbooks.

Joy has lectured world-wide and was invited to speak at Grand Rounds at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota, to Stanford Sleep Residency program and was the first myofunctional therapist to be on staff at the Pankey Institute. Dr. Sandra Kahn is an accomplished orthodontist with a notable career spanning several decades. Originally from Mexico, she graduated from the School of Stomatology at the Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM) with a Doctor of Dental Surgery (D.D.S.) degree. She then earned a Master’s degree in Orthodontics from the University of the Pacific in San Francisco, California.

Dr. Kahn’s professional journey began with her work in physical anthropology at the University of California, Berkeley, focusing on human craniofacial growth and development. She subsequently served on numerous craniofacial anomalies panels at the University of California at San Francisco (UCSF) and Stanford University. Her expertise earned her an adjunct clinical professorship at Stanford University in the Department of Craniofacial Anomalies at Lucille Packard Children’s Hospital.

After over 20 years in private practice and treating approximately 7,000 clinical patients, Dr. Kahn transitioned from traditional orthodontics to airway-centered orthodontics. This approach emphasizes the harmony of the jaws and aims to guide the growth of the face and jaws in children, improving breathing and sleep health to prevent conditions like snoring and obstructive sleep apnea.

Dr. Kahn has been invited to speak at many prestigious university hospitals around the world. Her research includes the use of implants in orthopedic traction Bollard hooks, Biobloc Orthotropics therapy for treating dental and orthopedic decompensation in patients with cleft lip and palate, and the prevention of pediatric obstructive sleep apnea through Forwardontics combined with myopostural therapy.

Together with Dr. Paul Ehrlich and their team at Stanford University, Dr. Kahn coined the term “Forwardontics” to promote protocols that support forward development of the facial middle and lower thirds. She is the only Diplomate of the American Board of Orthodontics practicing Forwardontics therapy.

Dr. Kahn is a prolific author, having written several influential books. According to the WHO around 74% of deaths are as a result of Non-Communicable Diseases (NCD) and - barring genetics and trauma - ALL have their origin in compensations that we make in order to survive our environment. The role in IIOPE is to identify and correct these compensations right at the start - going back to conception and gestation - as well as birth and early childhood - and prevent the mild dysfunction from becoming symptomatic and then chronic. Roger Price’s career began in the mid 1950s in South Africa where he started his studies as a Pharmacist at Rhodes University.

As a qualified Pharmacist with an Honours degree in Physiology and Pharmacology, he then went on to qualify as a Clinical Nutritionist and Remedial Massage Therapist. He studied further in the behavioural and psychological aspects of ill health and soon moved away from mainstream medicine as he realised that it had nothing to do with health at all.

More than 20 years ago he started to challenge the way that sleep disorders were being addressed and introduced the concept of Airway Management to the world of Dentistry.

After a 7 year Sabbatical in the United States, Europe, Canada, Ukraine, Russia, UAE, and having commenced, at the age of 79, a Masters in Applied Breathing Sciences, Roger returned to Sydney where he now consults for several Airway based practices.

Katie Ferraro is Registered Dietitian and mom of seven specializing in baby-led weaning. In 2016, she created the original 100 First Foods approach to starting solid foods with baby-led weaning. Through her workshops, podcast, courses, and digital content, she has helped tens of thousands of families give their babies a safe start to solid foods using the alternative to conventional, adult-led spoon-feeding known as baby-led weaning. Teaching families, daycare providers, and healthcare practitioners how to do baby-led weaning safely is her passion. Katie is a Nutrition Instructor at the University of California San Diego Extended Studies and a Lecturer in the Exercise and Nutrition Science department at San Diego State University. While she works as a dietitian specializing in infant feeding, her real job is at home where her husband and she are parents to seven kids, age 9 and under: a singleton, quadruplets, and twins. Nicole is the author of a children’s book series “The Adventures of Captain Airway and Mr. Mighty Mouth”, helping to bring airway insight to young children, their parents, teachers, and other medical professionals.

She is on the Child Airway Initiative Task Force (CAST), which is a national team of doctors, dentists, and orthodontists developing a universal screening tool for all dentists to use to screen patients for sleep-disordered breathing as per the 10/2017 American Dental Association proposal that all dentists should screen all patients for sleep-disordered breathing.

Nicole is the owner of San Diego Center For Speech Therapy & Myofunctional Therapy. She currently serves as a mentor and consultant to patients, professionals, and colleagues nationally and internationally in the field of orofacial myofunctional therapy. Nicole combines her background and skills in Psychology, Orofacial Myofunctional Therapy, and Speech-Language Pathology to provide effective and result-based evaluations, therapy, consultations, and mentorship for children and adults of all ages. She has a special passion and interest in sleep-disordered breathing and diagnosing restricted frenums as they relate to myofunctional disorders. Nicole’s life-long quest is to help in the early identification and treatment of sleep-disordered breathing and airway issues.
